Considerations in Creating a 5577 Data Stream
C.4.5 Setting a Format (Setting a Print Area and Tabs and Moving the
Print
Position Vertically/Horizontally)
The following settings made with control codes are determined by the line pitch or
character pitch set when the control code is transferred. Care is needed when
changing the line pitch or character pitch.
Print area setting (page length setting in lines, perforation skip setting, left and
right margin setting)
Vertical and horizontal tab setting
Vertical and horizontal position movement
Setting the Print Area
A page length (ESX 04 ... is set to C
±
= X
'
01
'
) and perforation skip (ESX 1B...)
must be specified with a number of lines respectively. These numbers are con-
verted to absolute values according to the line pitch set at a reception of these
control codes.
Be sure to set a page length and perforation skip immediately after the paper has
been advanced one page (X
'
0C
'
, etc).
The specified left and right margins (ESX 1A...) are converted to absolute values
according to the single byte character pitch (18 cpi when a condensed lower char-
acter setting is made) set at reception of this control code. Even if the character
pitch is changed after conversion to absolute values, the left and right margins are
not affected
Setting Vertical and Horizontal Tabs
The specified vertical tab (ESX 19...) is converted to an absolute value according to
the line pitch set at reception of this control code. Even if the line pitch is changed
after conversion to the absolute value, the vertical tab position is not affected.
The specified horizontal tab (ESX 18...) is converted to an absolute value according
to the single byte character pitch (18 cpi when a condensed lower character setting
is made) set at reception of this control code. Even if the character pitch is
changed after conversion to the absolute value, the horizontal tab position is not
affected.
Moving the Print Position Vertically/Horizontally
The print position is moved vertically (ESX 1D...) or horizontally (ESX 1C...) in units
of the line pitch or single byte character pitch (18 cpi when a condensed lower
character setting is made) set at reception of this control mode.
Note on Perforation Skip
When a perforation skip setting is made, ruled lines on the last line on a page for
which ruled line printing is specified may be printed on two contiguous pages sepa-
rated by the perforation. (This is the case where the last line encounters the perfo-
ration or physical last line.)
