Character Size and Type
The IBM 5400-006 printer can print nine types of alphanumeric characters and one
type of double byte characters, according to the initialization and the host com-
mands. Printed characters are all horizontal with a resolution of 7.09 dots/mm (180
dots/inch). For information about initial settings, see 2.12, “Initializing the Printer.”
Each character can be expanded to horizontal x 2, vertical x 2, horizontal and ver-
tical x 2, horizontal and vertical x 3, and horizontal and vertical x 4.
The following is a definition for expanding 24 dot and 18 dot characters:
24 Dot Character:
Alphanumeric characters displayed as 10, 12, 15, 18, and 24
dot wide, double byte characters 24 dot wide and 24 dot high
displayed as dot matrix, or user defined characters.
18 Dot Characters (8 lpi printing): Alphanumeric characters displayed as 12 dot
wide and 18 dot high dot matrix. These characters can be
printed in 8 lpi without affecting images.
Expanded Characters: 18 and 24 dot high characters are expanded vertically, hor-
izontally, or vertically and horizontally two times, vertically and
horizontally 4 times, or vertically and horizontally 4 times.
