S.M.A.R.T.
Self-Monitoring Analysis & Reporting Technology (SMART) is an interface between the
HRDV and the hard disk. It is a feature of the Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics
(EIDE) technology that controls access to the hard drive. S.M.A.R.T. is enabled when the
HRDV is powered on. The HRDV can receive analytical information from the hard drive
and show the status of the hard drive about possible future failure.
Note
SMART is available with HRDV V2.12T and later.
The SMART information and the status of each drive can be viewed in the disk status
screen (

). To view, click
S.M.A.R.T.
A screen displays
listing the Attribute id, current value, and the threshold value. The drive is considered
degrading and becoming unreliable when any one of the current value drops below the
threshold value.
The Status options that display on the Disk Status screen are:
Good
Need Service
. One or more attributes have dropped below the threshold, indicating
that the drive is becoming unreliable and should be replaced.
The HRDV automatically checks for the SMART status once a day at midnight. If any one
or more attributes have dropped below the threshold, it will be logged in the system log
along with the drive id. When Alarm Notification is enabled, an alarm will also be sent. In
addition, the RAS Site Notification also checks for the SMART status.
