Note
SMART log statistics are not permanently stored. If a system reset occurs, the
SMART statistics reset to default, indicating all drives are fine.
lists some of the attribute id and name definitions
Table F-1
SMART Attributes
ID
Attribute name
Description
Read Error Rate
Count of non-corrected read errors. More errors (that is, lower
attribute value) means worse condition of disk surface.
22
Throughput Performance
Overall (general) throughput performance of HDD (hard disk
drive).
3
Spin-up Time
Average time of spindle spin up time (from stopped to fully
operational).
4
Start/Stop Count
Count of spindle start/stop cycles.
5
Reallocated Sector Count
Count of reallocated sectors. When the HDD finds a read/write
error, it marks this sector as ‘reallocated’ and transfers data to
the special reserved area. The more sectors reallocated (lower
attribute value), the worse the condition of the disk
mechanical subsystem.
7
Seek Error Rate
Count of seek errors. When your HDD reads data, it positions
heads in the needed place. If there is a failure in the
mechanical positioning system, a seek error arises. The more
seek errors (lower attribute value), the worse the condition of
a disk surface and disk mechanical subsystem.
8
Seek Time Performance
Shows how fast seek operations are going.
9
Power on Hours Count
Count of hours in power on state.
10
Spin-up Retry Count
Count of retry of spin start attempts. If the HDD cannot start its
spindle on the first try (to make the HDD work) it makes
another try, and so on while the spindle will not rotate
normally. This attribute stores a count of start retries.
11
Drive Calibration Retry Count
Number of attempts to calibrate a drive.
12
Drive Power Cycle Count
Count of full HDD power cycle. Which means ‘start / stop’
(power on / power off) of the HDD. The attribute importance is
identical to ‘Power-on Hours’.
196
Relocation Event Count
Quantity of re-mapping operations.
197
Current Pending Sector Count
Current quantity of unstable sectors (waiting for re-mapping).
198
Off-line Scan Un-correctable
Sector Count
Quantity of uncorrected errors.
199
Ultra ATA CRC Error Rate
Count of errors found in data transfers in Ultra-DMA
(UDMA-33,66,100) mode by CRC (control sum). This is
another method of error control in data transfer operations but
for high-speed transfer modes.
