seated it will be approxim ately 1-1/4" from pum p face in
case (Fig. 7A-167C).
20. Install pum p assembly and gasket.
23. Check front unit end play as follows (Fig. 7A-
169C).
a. Install a 3/8 "-1 6 threaded bolt or a Slide H am m er
Bolt J-9539 into bolt hole in pum p.
b. M ount a dial indicator on rod and index indicator
to register w ith end of turbine shaft.
c. Push turbine shaft rearw ard.
d. Push o u tp u t shaft forw ard.
e. Set dial indicator to zero.
f. Pull turbine shaft forw ard.
R ead resulting travel or end play w hich should be
.003"-.024". Selective w asher controlling this end play is
located between pum p cover and forw ard clutch housing.
If m ore o r less w asher thickness is required to bring end play
w ithin specifications, select p ro p er w asher from the chart
in Fig. 7A-170C.
A n oil soaked w asher m ay tend to discolor. It will be
necessary to m easure w asher for its actual thickness.
24. Install rem aining front pum p attaching bolt and
seal. T orque 18 ft. lbs.

1. Install new case extension housing to case gasket on
extension housing. M odel C L uses a seal between the
extension housing and case extension.

N O T IC E :
If turbine shaft cannot be rotated as pum p
is being pulled into place, forw ard or direct clutch
housing have not been properly installed to index with
all clutch plates. T his condition m ust be corrected
before pum p is pulled fully into place.
21. Install all b u t one pum p attaching bolts and seals.
T orque to 18 ft. lbs. (See Figure 7A-169C for location of
om itted bolt.)
22. If necessary to install a new front seal, use a non­
hardening sealer on outside of seal body; and using Tool
J-2 1359, drive seal in place (Fig. 7A-168C).
