Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list.

Click Properties to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box.

Click Use the following IP address:

Enter 169.254.0.1 for IP Address.

Press Tab to automatically enter the correct Subnet Mask (255.255.0.0).

Do not enter a Default Gateway if using direct connection, or unless instructed by your
network administrator.

Click OK to save the settings and exit the Properties dialog box.
To set the IP Address and Subnet Mask for Windows 2000

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Double-click the Network and Dial up Connections icon.

Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and choose Properties from the context
menu.

Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list.
