1 .7 Ap plying Power to the GS8920.
1 .7 .1 The GS8920’s Display Messages When Power is Applied.
When power is applied, the GS8920 takes only 3 seconds to display the sign on messages and a further
3 seconds to automatically calibrate itself to the serial input from a properly functioning weight
indicator.
The display sequence is :-
Pt0.0bt
The GS8920’s software issue/version number and configuration.
888888
All of the display segments and lamps are turned on.
blank
All of the display segments and lamps are turned off.
—nr—.
‘
not ready
‘ displayed momentarily before getting new weight data.
The letter
b
in the power up message at digit 2 position denotes that the GS8920 is fitted with the
option
BR2
Calendar/Clock and expanded RAM for time and date printout as well as item entry
and piece counting.
The letter
t
in the power up message at digit 1 position denotes that the GS8920 is configured to
allow Toledo weight indicator inputs.
-232C-
C LOOP
The ‘
not ready
‘ message is displayed for 1 second and then the GS8920 steps through its
automatic serial input set up sequence displaying
-232C-
or
C LOOP
as it checks for serial
transmissions on its two input lines.
bd 4800
Once a transmission is detected the GS8920 will calibrate itself to the data transmission rate
displaying the baud rate in form
bd 4800
as it attempts to use it. (the GS8920 will go through
this serial recalibration sequence during normal operation if it fails to obtain a clear serial signal.)
The numbers displayed will be 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 and 19.2 as the GS8920 sets itself up
to receive data at each rate.
Err08
If the weight indicator is faulty or is transmitting data at a rate not among those listed, then the
GS8920 will cycle once through these rates after which it will cease its search and display the error
message
Err08
denoting a serial input failure.
PA E
PA n
Once the transmission type and rate are established, the GS8920 will search for the parity setting
used for the transmission which will be limited to either EVEN parity or NO parity. The parity
setting, once found and if changed, will be displayed in the form
PA E
or
PA n
for
E
ven or
n
o
parity for one second.
Ac 50
If a set of good weight data is received then the printer indicates its readiness for use by
illuminating the
READY
lamp and by displaying the last active accumulator register number in the
form
Ac 50
If the set of weight data received from the indicator is not valid or is not received within 5 attempts
each of 2 seconds duration then the GS8920 Ticket Printer will then display one of the error messages
described in the section ‘
Error Messages
‘. In this event, normal operation cannot continue until the
cause of the error is eliminated.
