3 .2 .2 Option P1 Installation.
The figure above shows the GS8920 viewed from the front and above with the top cover removed. The
GS8920’s Option P1 and ribbon cable are highlighted. The following applies to the installation of
Option P1 :-
a)
The GS8920 Ticket Printer automatically detects the serial output option P1. No changes are
required to any of the GS8920’s digital setup parameters upon installation of Option P1, but note, the
baud rate and parity settings for the serial input to the GS8920 Ticket Printer will also apply to the
GS8920’s serial output.
Accordingly, if 4800 baud and even parity were selected on the digital weight indicator during
installation of the GS8920 Ticket Printer, then the printer’s serial output will be at 4800 baud with
even parity. To change the GS8920’s serial output it is only necessary to change the serial output of the
indicator to which the GS8920 is connected. The GS8920 will then automatically adjust its own output.
(Refer to section 2 Installation.)
b)
Remove power from the GS8920 Ticket Printer. Remove the top cover and the option cutout
blanking plate.
c)
Install the ribbon cable into the socket J3 located at the rear right on the GS8920 Ticket Printer’s
motherboard ensuring that the coloured conductor on the edge of the ribbon cable is to the right of the
GS8920 Ticket Printer when viewed from the front. The connector J3 is keyed but take care not to
offset the pins. Take care also not to disconnect any of the cables that run in the vicinity of the Option
P1’s location.
d)
Install the option board with the component side uppermost by screwing it to the rear of the GS8920
using the jack screws and washers provided.
e)
Connect the ribbon cable connector to the J1 socket on the option board making sure the cable is not
twisted.
f)
Replace the GS8920 Ticket Printer top cover and apply power to complete the installation.
WARNING :- It is not necessary to remove any items or cables from within the GS8920 while
installing the Option P1. Do not remove the main cable between the motherboard and the printer
mechanism. The 25 pin connector is NOT keyed at the printers end of the cable and incorrect
re-connection will destroy components on the GS8920 motherboard.
