1 .4 .13 Item Entry/Piece Counting and Pricing.

The GS8920’s item entry and pricing facility can be enabled at installation provided that the GS8920 is
fitted with Option

BR2

.

If the item entry facility is active, then the GS8920 will ask for the quantity and price data when ever a
ticket is printed. In addition, the quantity and price data will be added to the active accumulator and to
the Security Register.

The GS8920’s Item Entry facility can be used to print unit and total prices on a ticket and, where  the
quantity of items is unknown but a sample is available or the unit weight is known, to count pieces.

Whenever the GS8920 is used to calculate the quantity it will print the entered unit weight as well as
the calculated unit weight. Whenever the GS8920 calculates a quantity it checks to see if it has just
been used to obtain a unit weight from a small sample. If it has, it then refines the unit weight
calculation by recalculating it using the larger quantity in the count weighment. The new unit weight is
printed on the ticket and this weight may be used for future counting operations.

All of the GS8920’s calculations are carried out at very high 12 digit accuracy. However the GS8920’s
piece counting precision is limited by the number of divisions supplied from the weight indicator
which is generally no more than 10,000 full scale. Accordingly, the GS8920 should not be used for
piece counting where each piece is only a small fraction of one display division.

1 .4 .13 .1 Item Entry with known Quantities

Following operation of a function key the GS8920 will display

Count

. Enter the known quantity using

the numeral keys and press

ENTER

. If a count of zero is entered or if the

CLEAR

 key is operated

twice the GS8920 will resume normal operation WITHOUT printing a ticket. If a key is NOT operated
for a continuous period of 60 seconds then the GS8920 will automatically return to its normal mode
without printing a ticket.
After a quantity is entered the GS8920 will display the message

PricE

. Now use the numeral keys to

enter the price per unit of weight followed by the

ENTER

key to save the value. If a price of zero is

entered or if the

CLEAR

key is operated twice the GS8920 will resume normal operation WITHOUT

printing a ticket.

Following operation of the

ENTER

key after entering the price the GS8920 will print the selected

ticket. The Item entry and pricing information with the correct units of measure and currency units will
appear at the bottom of the ticket as shown :-
