9 MODIFIERS
DUAL SOURCE MODIFIERS
The Axe-Fx III allows modifiers to have not one but two sources. These can be combined in interesting ways to
jointly control a target parameter. Among many other possibilities, this allows pedal-controlled effects to be
operated by either of two different pedals. (Onstage and offstage for artist and tech, or upstage and downstage
so you can stroll out onto the catwalk during a stadium tour.)
When creating a modifier as described in this chapter, you will notice that the menu has separate pages for
selecting Source 1 and Source 2. The Modify page then has three parameters which allow you to scale and
combine these together. Each source normally ranges from 0-100%, but Source 1 Scale or Source 2 Scale can
be used to reduce the impact of either source. Meanwhile, the Operation parameter determines whether the two
sources will be added (Source 1 + Source 2), subtracted (Source 1 - Source 2), or multiplied (Source 1x Source 2).
After the two sources are combined, the output is constrained between 0 and 100. In other words, you cannot
add two pedals together and have the output become 200%. Any value greater than 100 is treated as 100. So, to
achieve our stated example of having two different pedals operate the same wah, each pedal must be returned to
the heel position when not in use.
The following diagram illustrates how the two sources and their parameters work together.
