Map Scale
The Map Scale overlay is accessed by selecting the MAP SCALE overlay button on the Area Map page.
See Figure 3-22. The Map Scale overlay is used to set the scale of the Area Map page. It consists of ten
direct entry buttons and one data entry button. Eight of the buttons are preset map scales in nautical miles
that can be set by selecting the desired button. The buttons are 1, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, and 320.
The AUTO direct entry button automates the Area Map’s scale. As the aircraft approaches the edge of
the map, the map will automatically zoom out to the next higher scale. For instance, if the scale is set at
10nm, as the aircraft approaches the edge of the map its scale will automatically set itself to 20nm. This
will continue until the map reaches its maximum scale. The CUSTOM SCALE NM button accesses a
data entry keypad for entering a desired map scale.
The OK direct entry button closes the Map scale overlay and implements the changes.
