Repair and Service Manual
Read all of Section B and this section before attempting any procedure. Pay particular attention to all Notes, Cautions and Warnings
Tighten the hardware per torque specification table given
below.
Choke System
Do not attempt to lubricate the choke cable.
Lubricant tends to retain dirt on the moving
parts which will cause premature deterioration of the cable.
The choke functions to make initial starting of the engine
easier in cold weather conditions. The choke plate
restricts the air flow into the carburetor which richens the
air/fuel ratio.
Choke Operation
Pull choke knob out to operate choke. Check that cable
operates smoothly and that cable returns when the knob
is released. The motion should be smooth throughout the
entire operating range. If there is any binding or sharp
bends, the choke cable assembly and linkage must be
inspected and parts replaced as required.

Straight blade screwdriver, small ................................. 1
Raise the seat bottom and support. Remove choke cable
(item 1) from ball stud (item 2) of choke pivot plate (item
3) (Ref Fig. 4 on page K-4). Loosen jam nuts (item 4)
securing choke cable (item 1) to choke bracket (item 5)
using 7/16" wrench. At the driver side of the seat support
panel (item 6), loosen the jam nut (item 7) securing to
end of the cable and rotate the adapter retainer (item 8).
Remove the choke cable (item 1) from the vehicle.
Installation of the choke cable is the reverse of disassem-
bly.
