Touch Exit
This direct selection method is similar to touch enter, but the touch exit option means that a selected object
is activated when the selection is released. This method allows you to maintain contact with the touch
screen without accidentally making a selection. This means that you can slide a finger or a pointer across
the screen, or hold down on a mouse button while moving the cursor. A selection will not be made until the
finger or pointer lifts off the screen, or the mouse button is released. This makes the touch exit selection
method ideal for a person who may find it easier to maintain contact with the touch screen while moving
from selection to selection.
You can activate the touch exit selection method by following these steps:
1.
Select the Setup button in the title bar. The
M3 Setup
menu will open.
2.
Select the
Selection Method
drop-down menu.
3.
Select the
Touch Exit
option.
4.
Select the
OK
button to close the
M3 Setup
menu.
Scanning
Scanning is intended for individuals who are unable to effectively use direct selection. When scanning is in
use, objects on the M3 touch screen are highlighted in a specific pattern. A switch or other device is used to
make a selection when the desired item is highlighted.
Scanning includes two primary methods: visual scanning and auditory scanning. To use visual scanning, the
user must be able to identify the moving highlight and visually identify items on the touch screen. Auditory
scanning is an ideal selection method for individuals whose visual abilities do not allow them to visually
identify choices on the touch screen. When auditory scanning is being used, the M3 device will speak cues
for the choices as they are highlighted. The user makes the selection when he or she hears the cue for the
desired choice. Auditory scanning can also work well for individuals who can see the touch screen but would
benefit from an auditory reinforcement of their vocabulary choices.
Follow these steps to activate the scanning selection method:
1.
Select the Setup button in the title bar. The
M3 Setup
menu will open.

Select the
Selection Method
drop-down menu.
3.
Select the
Scanning
option.
4.
Select the
OK
button to close the
M3 Setup
menu.
