Knives are not ground at
one of the cutting edges.
Grinder is not parallel to the
knives.
Readjust the grinder level by adding or removing
appropriate spacers.
The grinding stone is vibrat-
ing.
Stone not assembled cor-
rectly.
Sharpening PTO speed too
low.
Check for the correct spring washers assembly.
Make sure the two set screws are well tightened
and locked on the stone
Run at 600 PTO RPM for 1000-1000 Harvester
Run at 750 PTO RPM for 1000-800 Harvester.

Excessive spacing between
knives and shear bar.
Length of cut unnecessarily
too short.
The Forage Harvester is
completely gued.
Smooth roll cleaner not
adjusted.
Fan is not correctly adjusted.
Insufficiently ground knives.
Inadequate shear bar.
Adjust shear bar.
Increase length of cut. Change length of cut.
Use liquid incorporation system to avoid guing.
Clean and readjust smooth roll cleaner.
Adjust fan.
Sharpen knives.
Rotate (inverse) or replace the shear bar. Place
tungsten on each side, facing up.
Noisy universal joint.
Main and telescopic PTO are
misaligned.
The universal joint housings
at both ends of the
main drive shaft are not
aligned.
The tractor draw bar is mis-
aligned. Crossarm bearings
are worn.
The draw bar is too short.
Adjust the height of the front bracket.
Align the housings so that they are parallel.
Change the draw bar position to align it correctly
and/or replace the crossarm bearings.
Lengthen the draw bar in order to respect the
correct dimension (see pages 73-74).
Cutter head drive shaft is
slipping. Bearing is hot.
To much horse power for
clutch setting.
Friction disks are worn out.
Adjust the clutch.
Replace friction disks
Keep knives sharp
Check shear bar
Re-adjust the clutch.
