OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
DETECTION SYSTEM FOR SAFETY BOLT BREAK-
AGE OR FRICTION CLUTCH SLIPPAGE ON THE
CUTTER HEAD TRANSMISSION SHAFT.
Two optional sensors can be added, one on the cutter
head (Figure 134) and one on the lower roll drive shaft
(Figure 135), to verify the rotation of one in relation to
the other.
Cutter head sensor: Adjust the sensor (item 1) at 1/16”
from the corner of the cutter head bolt (Figure 134).
Lower drive shaft sensor: Adjust the sensor (item 1 in
Figure 135) at 1/16” from the corner of the transmission
shaft joint frame (item 2 in Figure 135).
Connect the sensors to the electronic card according to
the diagram and move jumpers J6 and J8 on the card
according to the configuration of the machine.
If the safety bolt breaks or if the friction clutch slips
(this will depend on the option installed on the ma-
chine), and if the feed rolls are still turning, their drive
system is stopped as if there were a metal detection.
Also, the quick intermittent alarm (ON-OFF every 1/10
of a second) goes off and the transmission automatically
switches to neutral.
This prevents the attachment and the feed rolls from
jaing.
In the case of a transmission shaft with shear bolt:
1. Engage the transmission in reverse to free the cutter
head then put it back to neutral.
2. Stop the PTO and switch off the tractor engine be-
fore installing a new safety bolt.
3. Free the feed rolls from any silage.
4. Start the tractor engine and engage the PTO at low
speed (idle), then operate at high speed to free the
material inside the Forage Harvester.
NOTE
: Proceed with the cleaning of the cracker rolls if
necessary (see page 151) then switch trans-
mission back to forward to resume work.
In the case of a transmission shaft with a friction clutch:
1. Stop the PTO.
2. Switch off the tractor engine.
3. Manually rotate the feed rolls in reverse to free the
cutter head.
4. Free the feed rolls from any silage.
5. Start the tractor engine and engage the PTO at low
speed (idle), then operate at high speed to free the
material inside the Forage Harvester.
NOTE
: Proceed with the cleaning of the cracker rolls if
necessary (see page 151).
Switch transmission back to forward to resume work.
NOTE
: Frequent clutch slippage may require the re-
placement of friction discs.
