4.2.4 PREHEATING SYSTEM
The pre-heat controller is fixed on left side of the steer-
ing column assembly. This controller limits the length
of time that the glow plugs operate.
A. PRE-HEAT CONTROLLER TESTING
NOTES:
•
Always verify polarity of the battery before testing.
A 12-volt battery, voltmeter, a switch and jumper wires
are needed to test the pre-heat controller.
1. Install the battery’s positive (+) lead to terminal 1 of
the controller.
2. Install the voltmeter to terminal 4 of the controller
with its lead connected to the battery negative (-)
terminal.
3. Install the test switch to terminal 3 of the controller
with its lead connected to the battery positive (+)
terminal.
4. Connect terminal 2 of the controller to the battery’s
negative terminal as the final step.
If the voltmeter does not register 10.5 - 12 V, replace
the controller.
4.2.5 GLOW PLUGS
Glow plugs are heating elements used to warm the air
in the combustion chambers before and during engine
startup. The glow plugs are located on the right side of
the engine cylinder lead.
