Upgrade Firmware on Multiple APs
In a network that contains more than one AP operating in standard
mode, one AP is set as the master. In this case, a useful method is
available whereby upgrading the master AP causes the other APs
(including stations) to read the new firmware from the master and
upgrade themselves.
Required settings : Set the “Access Point Type” of one of the APs
to “Master”
: Set “Automatically Upgrade Firmware from
Master” to “Enabled” on all APs other than the
master.
(1) Use SmartMedia or TFTP to upgrade the firmware and then
reboot the master.
(2) Reboot each of the other upgraded APs either using TFTP or
the reset button on the AP itself. This causes the APs to read
the firmware from the master.
(3) While reading the firmware, all LEDs on the front of the AP
blink. When the LEDs stop blinking, the AP reboots to run
the new firmware.
Running the Loader to Forcibly Upgrade the Firmware
(1) Turn off the power to the AP and prepare a terminal
connection (see Chapter 5).
(2) Prepare the AP firmware on the PC you are using as a
terminal.
(3) Set the INIT DIP switch to ON to run the loader.
(4) Connect the terminal. To login, just press the ENTER key at
the password input screen.
(5) Select “6. Download”
→
“2. Firmware” from the Top menu.
