AP Maintenance
This chapter describes how to perform maintenance on the AP and
explains the tools to be used. Here, “maintenance” means the
following: log file collection, firmware upgrades, and saving and
restoring the software settings.
Maintenance Tool
Two different maintenance tools are available for the AP:
SmartMedia and the TFTP file transfer utility. This section
describes how to use both tools.
How to Use SmartMedia
The AP uses SmartMedia for the following three purposes
- Save and update (restore) the settings file for the access point
- Log file collection
- Firmware upgrades
When inserting the SmartMedia into the SmartMedia slot, insert
carefully with the orientation shown in the figure on the next page.
When removing the SmartMedia, wait for the busy light to go out,
then press the eject button.
A 3.5 inch floppy disk adaptor can be purchased separately for
SmartMedia. This is useful for transferring the collected log file
to a PC.
Notes!
- SmartMedia is sold separately. You can use 3.3V SmartMedia
in the following sizes: 2MB, 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, or 32MB.
- When you insert a SmartMedia into the AP, the AP automatically
reads the SmartMedia if the write-protect seal is attached or
automatically writes to the SmartMedia if the write-protect seal
is not attached. Take care not to insert a SmartMedia
containing important files with the write-protect removed.
- Inserting a SmartMedia charged with static electricity into the
AP may cause malfunction or data corruption in the AP.
