Constructing a Network
This section gives some pointers and cautions relating to
constructing a network using the AP and user units, and provides
some practical examples.
(1) Give some though to the area in which the radio signals need
be received (henceforth called the coverage area). (In this
section, the coverage area will mean the region in which the
RSSI value is 80 or higher.) For example, if the AP is used in
standard mode with multiple user units logged in, all user units
must be located within the coverage area. As the
communication range of the AP is about 50m in an indoor
environment with no obstructions, approximately this area can
be covered in a typical office or factory provided no concrete
walls, metal doors, elevator shafts, or similar are present.
However, remember that transmit and receive errors start to
increase as the transmission distance gets longer.
When setting up the network, check the RSSI level then
confirm that communication works correctly with the
application you plan to use. For a TCP/IP system, for
example, you can use the Windows PING command. To use
PING, open an MS-DOS prompt window and enter the
following command. The example command is for an AP
with an IP address of 10.168.132.15.
C:\WINDOWS>ping 10.168.132.15
(2) The maximum number of user units that can log in to an AP at
one time is 254. However, remember that the communication
speed slows due to the increased loading as the number of user
units for a particular AP increases.
(3) The DS type communications used on this AP can be set to any
one of channels 1 to 14 by RF. However, signal interference
may occur if another network group is operating nearby using
a channel number close to the selected channel number. It is
recommend that the channels used for adjacent networks are
separated by at least 5 channels.
