AP Setup
AP name
Assigning a name to an AP makes it easier to identify on the
network. Enter a name of up to 16 alphanumeric characters.
Unit type
Select either “AP” or “Station”. “AP” means the AP manages user
units and other APs that are operating as stations. “Station” means
the AP is managed by (logs in to) another AP and is set when the
AP is used as a bridge or similar. The factory default setting is
“AP”.
ESSID of this AP
The name of the wireless LAN to which the AP belongs.
Changing the ESSID causes the AP to be disconnected from the
network. Enter a name up to 32 alphanumeric characters. The
name is case sensitive. The factory default setting is
“LocalGroup”.
Access point type
In wireless networks containing multiple APs, setting one of the
APs as the master is helpful for network operation. Select one of
“Master”, “Backup Master”, or “Normal”. The factory default
setting is “Normal”.
Table 6.2.
Access Point Type
Master
Manages other APs in the same network. Only one AP can be set as
the master. The main purpose of centralized management is that it
allows the existence and operating status of all APs to be managed
centrally and it facilitates firmware upgrades and IP tunneling.
A master AP is required to use the IP tunneling function.
Backup Master
Operates as the backup master if the master does not respond.
Only one AP can be set as the backup master.
