Remove the four lock nuts and bolts (4 and 5) securing the steering column (11) to the chassis

Remove steering column from vehicle.
STEERING COLUMN INSTALLATION
1.
For ease of assembly and to prevent corrosion, apply a light coat of anti-seize or lubricating compound to the
end of the steering column shaft.
2.
Position the steering column (11) on the chassis while inserting the steering column shaft into the upper universal
joint of the intermediate shaft (10)
. The notched portion of the steering shaft spline
must be aligned with the bolt hole in the universal joint before sliding the spline into the universal joint . While
holding the steering column in place, attach it to the frame using bolts and nuts (4 and 5). Thread the nuts
onto the bolts but do not tighten them.
3.
Install the bolt (9) in the upper universal joint and finger tighten.
4.
Tighten the four steering column lock nuts to 216 in-lb (24.5 N·m).
5.
Tighten the bolt (9) on the upper universal joint to 20 ft-lb (27 N·m).
6.
Check the other bolts on the universal joints to ensure that they are properly tightened to 20 ft-lb (27 N·m).
7.
Install instrument panel.

8.
Install steering wheel.

9.
Install front cowl.
See Front Cowl Installation, Section 4, Page 4-9.
