FUEL TANK
See General Warning on page 1-2.
WARNING
• If the fuel tank is damaged, replace it. Do not attempt to repair it. See the following tank removal
and disposal procedure.
FUEL TANK REMOVAL
1.
Turn the fuel shut-off valve to the closed (OFF) position
.
2.
Run the engine until all fuel in the carburetor, fuel pump, and fuel lines is used and the engine stalls.
3.
Remove the seat bottom.
4.
Disconnect battery and spark plug wire(s).
See Disconnecting the Battery – Gasoline Vehicles on page 1-4.
5.
Disconnect fuel hose from shut-off valve, plug the end of hose to prevent fuel spillage, and secure hose out
of the way.
6.
Disconnect the vent tube from the fuel tank (2)
7.
Disconnect all wire harness leads from the fuel level sender. Do not remove the lower nut from the center stud
of the sensor.

8.
Remove the fuel tank cap (1)
9.
Use a siphon with a built-in suction device to siphon all fuel from the tank and into an approved container.
See following DANGER and WARNING.
DANGER
• Gasoline! Flammable! Explosive! Do not smoke. Keep sparks and flames away from the vehicle
and service area.
WARNING
• Never attempt to siphon fuel with a hose that does not have a built-in suction device.
• Never attempt to siphon fuel with your mouth.
