VEHICLE CREEP
Description
New vehicles or vehicles with a new drive belt may crawl forward with the shifter in FORWARD and the engine idling.
This is considered normal until the drive belt is “broken-in” (approximately 15 hours of use). Creep can also be
introduced or worsened by incorrectly adjusting the accelerator cable and/or tampering with the governor.
Definitions
Normal:
Considered as walking pace (3 MPH) or less.
Abnormal:
Considered as greater than walking pace (3 MPH). Other symptoms include difficulty or inability to
shift into or out of gear.
What To Do
If normal condition exists, operate the vehicle as usual, and the movement should gradually lessen and soon come to
an end.
If abnormal conditions exist, perform the following steps in the order shown:
1.
Do a quick check of throttle bellcrank movement:
1.1. Disable the vehicle.
See Disabling the Vehicle on page 1-3.
1.2. Raise the cargo bed and secure with the bed locking pin.
See Cargo Bed, Section 4, Page 4-20.
1.3. Remove the exhaust pipe heat shield.
1.4. Push accelerator pedal to the floor and hold.
1.5. Verify the throttle bellcrank makes a positive stop against the mounting bracket tab
.
1.6. If the throttle bellcrank contacts the positive stop too early or not at all, perform the accelerator cable
adjustment first.
See Accelerator Cable Adjustment – From Early-2012 Model Year on page 5-12.
If the
throttle bellcrank contacts the positive stop tab correctly, proceed to the next step.
2.
Perform idle speed adjustment procedure.
See Idle Speed Adjustment on page 13-11.
3.
Perform high speed adjustment procedure.
See High Speed Adjustment on page 13-14.
4.
If idle speed and/or high speed adjustment is not capable of meeting specified RPM, reset governor lever and
perform steps 1 through 3 again.
See Governor Lever Reset Adjustment on page 13-16.
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT
WARNING
• Hot exhaust manifold! Use care adjusting the idle speed while the engine is running.
NOTE:
Idle should be adjusted when the engine is warm.
1.
Raise the cargo bed and engage the cargo bed lock pin (1) located at the driver side cargo bed hinge (2)
2.
Remove the two screws securing the heat shield to the exhaust manifold
