Setting Up the FaxPress Server
FaxPress Requirements
The FaxPress requires:
That each fax channel be connected to a dedicated phone line. The FaxPress may
have 2, 4 or 8 fax channels.
A PBX system or integrated access device such as the Exacom DID Interface Module
to interface to a DID trunk if a PBX system will not be used.
Connecting the FaxPress to the Network
To connect the FaxPress server to the network, follow these steps:
1. Connect the network cable to the FaxPress server’s Ethernet port.
2. Connect the fax lines to the FaxPress’s fax modem ports. (See Attaching the
FaxPress to your Fax Lines on page 9.)
3. Plug the power cable into the FaxPress server.
4. Plug the power cable into a power source.
5. Power on the FaxPress.
6. By default, the FaxPress is DHCP-enabled. Powered on in a DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol) environment, the FaxPress will automatically be assigned
an IP address from your network’s DHCP server, but will need to be manually
joined to the network domain. The FaxPress’s IP address will be displayed on the
FaxPress’s front panel LCD window.
Attaching the FaxPress to your Fax Lines
Each Premier fax modem board provides four fax line interfaces. Every two lines share one
RJ-14 connector on the fax modem board. Each RJ-14 uses one of the provided external
split cables with a RJ-11 plug at each of the two split ends to connect to two phone lines.
If the FaxPress is connected behind a PBX and automatic inbound fax routing will be
implemented, you’ll need to know the input string of DTMF digits from the PBX to the
FaxPress fax line. A mask will need to be configured for FaxPress to recognize the input
string. See Automatic Routing and PBX Integration on page 81 for information.
Required Setup Procedures
Setting up the FaxPress server for basic operation involves the following required steps:
1. Connecting the FaxPress to your network and phone system. (See “Connecting the
FaxPress to the Network’ on page9)
Note: When connecting the FaxPress to a PBX, a trained PBX technician should
be on site.
