CR10X Measurement and Control Module
Overview
The CR10X is a fully programmable datalogger/controller with non-volatile memory and a
battery backed clock in a small, rugged, sealed module. The combination of reliability,
versatility and telecommunications support make it an ideal choice for both single-logger
and network applications.
Campbell Scientific provides aids to help you with the operation and programming of your
CR10X as follows:
1. This Overview
2. The CR10X User Guide (Sections 1–8)
3. The CR10X Reference (Sections 9–14 and Appendices)
4. The CR10X Prompt Sheet
5. PCTOUR
This Overview introduces the concepts required to take advantage of the CR10X’s capabilities.
Hands-on programming examples start in Section OV5. Working with a CR10X will help the
learning process, so don’t just read the examples, do them. If you want to start this minute, go
ahead and try the examples, then come back and read the rest of the Overview. You may also
find the PCTOUR demonstration disk (see below) and the PC200 starter software package
useful. These can be found on our ‘Manuals’ CD, but can also be downloaded from the
Campbell Scientific website (www.campbellsci.co.uk). Please contact Campbell Scientific if
you have difficulty obtaining a copy.
PCTOUR is a computer-based guided tour of the CR10X. This takes you through the use and
operation of the PC208 DOS-based Datalogger Support Software, but can also be applied to
the PC208W Windows-based fully-featured datalogger support software package. Much of
the material in this Overview is also covered in PCTOUR.
The sections of the Instruction Manual which should be read to complete a basic
understanding of the CR10X operation are Sections 1–3 (programming), Sections 4 and 5
(data retrieval) and Section 14 (installation and maintenance).
Section 6 covers details of serial communications. Sections 7 and 8 contain programming
examples. Sections 9-12 have detailed descriptions of each programming instruction, and
Section 13 describes CR10X measurement procedures in detail.
The Prompt Sheet is an abbreviated description of the programming instructions. Once
familiar with the CR10X, it is possible to program it using only the Prompt Sheet as a
reference, consulting the manual if further detail is needed.
Read the Selected Operating Details and Cautionary Notes at the
front of the Manual before using the CR10X.
OV1. Physical Description
The CR10X is a fully programmable datalogger and controller in a small, rugged,
sealed module. Programming is very similar to Campbell Scientific’s 21X and
CR7 dataloggers. Some fundamental physical differences are listed below.
