Figure 3-2
is an example of an individual 9A686-04 board in a SmartSwitch 9500. In this
example, there are six front panel interfaces with physical connections to other devices. All
devices are using UNI 3.1 for Signalling. The “N” to the right of each UNI 3.1 indicates that
these are UNI 3.1 Network Connections, (i.e., each port is physically connected to another
ATM device). The NEXT and PREV commands at the bottom of the screen allow the user to
scroll to subsequent screens to view all interfaces. The interfaces displayed include both front
panel and backplane interfaces. This screen provides the user with quick access to important
information. It displays if there is a physical link present, if ILMI has started up correctly, the
protocol stack type that has been requested for each interface, and the current state of that
stack. In addition, it allows the user to see how many times the physical link to each port has
gone down, and how many times the protocol stack’s status has changed.
NOTE
A protocol stack that has been in a “Down” state does not necessarily indicate a
failure on that port. It could mean that the port requested a new stack, and so the
old stack was torn down. This can be caused by the neighbor sending a cold start
trap, change stack type requests, etc.
