Creating a PVC
2.31 CREATING A PVC
This section provides an example of creating a PVC via the AtoM MIB. The example goes
through the steps of creating a PVC from one front panel interface, to another front panel
interface on the same module. These sections provide two example formats to perform this
task. The first will be examples of performing the task via Enterasys Systems Spectrum MIB
Tools Utility. The second will present the MRMIT command line interface version of the
command to perform the task. The command line interface commands will be shown in the
following format:
snmpget -h example format
Proceed through the following sections to create the PVC:
2.31.1 Getting the Traffic Descriptor
The SmartSwitch 9500 has a default traffic descriptor defined in row 10. This will always be
present on the system unless it is manually deleted by the user. In this example, the default
traffic descriptor will be used.
2.31.2 Adjusting ILMI Parameters for PVC Creation
If the SmartSwitch 9500 system has kept the default settings, it is necessary to reserve
VCI/VPI pairs for PVCs. This is performed via the ILMI Configuration screen, as shown in
Figure 2-33
.
NOTE
Refer to
Chapter 3
for more information on ILMI.
For additional information on ILMI, refer to sections 8.2.3.8 through 8.2.3.10 of the
ATM Forum’s ILMI 4.0 specification for suggested use of VCI/VPI configurations for
