9.2.2 Zero Point Correction through Tare Measurements
In addition to the on-going measurement which is displayed live,
the tare measurement is also part of normal operation.
All changes occurring with time must be compensated for by a tare
measurement. In particularly, this includes changes on the belt it-
self. A deposit layer may also form on the belt depending on the
material being conveyed. The user must decide how often the tare
weight should be measured. The button must only be pressed
when the belt is absolutely empty, everything else is done auto-
matically. We recommend checking the tare once a month.
Tare must also be determined again when the belt has been re-
placed. Recalibration is not necessary.
The same applies if the source is replaced after years (see section
Radiation Protection Guidelines when this should be done).
No tare measurement is necessary to compensate for the natural
decay of activity. Since the computer also contains a clock (
Date &
Time
in the
General Data
menu), this change can be compensated
for mathematically. It takes place every night exactly at midnight.
You can check this as well. After several days the tare count rate
changes automatically. If the computer has been without power
supply for some time, the clock is supplied with power by a bat-
tery. At the next measurement, the decay compensation is cor-
rected automatically.
