IOM Protection Slots
In the original Plexus chassis, part number 85-3000 with Midplane I, I/O-9
(physical slot 11) is the DS3 protection slot and I/O-7 (physical slot 7) is
the slot for DS1 protection. Refer to
protection scheme of Midplane I.

In the Plexus chassis with Midplane II, part number 85-3004, and
Midplane III, part number 85-3007, physical I/O-7 (physical slot 7) is the
recommended slot for DS1 protection and I/O-5 and I/O-13 (physical slots
5 and 17) are the DS3 protection slots. I/O 17 (physical slot 21) is the slot
for Voice Server IOM protection. I/O-5 provides DS3 protection for I/O-1
to I/O-4, and 6 I/O to I/O-8; I/O-13 provides DS3 protection for I/O-9 to
I/O-12 and I/O-14 to I/O-17. Refer to
protection scheme of Midplane II (and Midplane III).
In any chassis if no protection is required, all 17 I/O slots can be used for
traffic termination.
