Assemblies
The format of all cable assemblies, is as follows:
NN – AXXX – Y – Z
Revision level of the cable
Secondary cable characteristics
3 digits to represent cable length
Primary cable characteristics
Cable family
8.2.2.1 NN
Field
The cable families represented by the “NN” field are:
43 = DS1 Cables
44 = DS3 Cables
45 = Miscellaneous Cables
46 = Fiber Optic Cables
8.2.2.2 A
Field
For 43/44-series cables, the “A” field
represents primary cable
characteristics, such as wire gauge. For 45-series cables, the “A” field
represents the category of cable. Refer to
8.2.2.3 XXX
Field
The “XXX” field
is a three-digit representation of the cable length. The
units are usually in feet. Certain cables may have lengths that are not
exact to the foot (e.g., 20 inches).
8.2.2.4 Y
Field
For 43/44-series cables, the “Y” field
represents secondary cable
characteristics, such as connector. For 45-series cables, the “Y” field
represents the sub-category of cable. Refer to
8-B for a description of the “Y” field for cables.
8.2.2.5 Z
Field
The “Z” field
represents the revision level of the cable.
