INTRODUCTION
Purpose of this manual
The purpose of this manual is to guide the installer step by step through the installation and programming
processes of the AlphaVision NG control panel. This manual intends to make the installer familiar with the
way the AlphaVision NG control panel is built up and works with the several available components.
The AlphaVision NG control panel is designed and tested to the latest requirements on stability, reliability
and insensitivity for environmental electric discharges. Please follow the guidelines below for a long and
problem free functioning of the control panel.
Guidelines
Always make sure the control panel is well grounded. If you have any doubts about the ground connection,
please make sure you check this.
A well connected earth is of essential importance for a good diverting
of electric discharges!
The mains connection is connected to the terminal block inside the casing of the
control panel. The middle connection is for the earth-ground and is connected to the casing. The terminal
block is supplied with a 1,6A slow glass fuse.
All components of the AlphaVision NG security system, including the keypads, are only applicable in
situations with a temperature of 0º to 50ºC. Only the NG Proximity Reader can be applied in situations with
temperatures ranging from –20º to +50ºC.
The AlphaVision NG printed circuit board is high ohm connected to the ground with the earth wire and earth
clamp next to the supply terminal block. Make sure the earth clamp is connected to the slide at the bottom of
the casing. Through this connection possible electrical discharges are lead to the ground. Also over voltages
from the telephone line, such as induction voltage from lightning strikes, is lead away through this
connection.
Always use FTP cable for the RS-485 bus. (FTP = Foiled Twisted Pair data cable minimum 2 x 2 x 0,5 mm
with shielding) The RS-485 bus is used for the data communication between the AlphaVision NG
components. Make sure the cable shielding is always connected to the ground connection in the control
panel casing.
The RS-485 bus used by the AlphaVision NG control panel is a 4-wire bus. A 4-wire FTP cable is always
made up of two core pairs. (e.g. red and blue twisted together and green and yellow twisted together.) Make
sure one pair is used for the power supply (+12V and 0V), and the other pair for the data communication (A
and B). Using standard security cable or making wrong connections might lead to communication problems
and can result in damage to the control panel and/or its components. When using a long RS-485 bus (longer
than 500 meters), it is not allowed to create star shaped connections between the control panel and the other
components. Make sure all components are connected in one line. The length of the bus may not exceed
1200 meters.
Make sure the mains voltage and the secondary voltages remain separated, both inside the casing of the
control panel and outside the casing. Avoid using cable channels with mains voltage cables and security
cables laid together. Especially when the mains voltage cables run to machines or fluorescent lights or when
it are 3 phase ducts, you have to make sure the security cables do not run through the same cable channels.
When this cannot be avoided, be sure to use shielded cables. Earthing the system is done from the control
panel. Be sure not to create earth loops.
Do not keep long cables in the control panel casing and avoid the cables to touch the circuit board.
