Chapter 1. Introduction

Speaker Interface

The ZT 8905 supports an external AT-compatible speaker through the multi-I/O frontplane connector
(illustrated on previous page).

Optional IDE Interface

The ZT 8905 can be ordered (Option D1) with an on-board IDE interface connector for connection to
an IDE hard drive. This option is useful for single board operation (without the STD 32 backplane) or
for STAR SYSTEM operation where it is desired to have a local boot device that is independent of
other STAR SYSTEM CPUs. This option includes a 2.5" IDE interface mounted on a carrier board
which is attached to the bottom side of the ZT 8905. When used in the STD 32 chassis, the IDE drive
occupies one slot more than the standard ZT 8905. The disk carrier board also provides attachment
points for single board operation, allowing the OEM an easy way of mounting the ZT 8905. See
Chapter 10, "Optional IDE Interface," for more information.
