Maintenance and Repair
Introduction
The Vela CineCast Models 2000-0600 (HD/1) and 0600-1 (HD/2) rack-mount
decoders require very little maintenance and should require minimal repair during
its useful lifetime. Power supply, fan, and fuse replacement, along with fan filter
cleaning, are repair items covered in this chapter. Any repairs mentioned in this
chapter can be considered field repairs, negating the need to ship the item away;
however, any work done in the field should be performed by qualified personnel.
Field Repair and Maintenance Overview
The CineCast HD/1 and HD/2 rack-mount decoders are designed for field
replacement of the fan, power supplies, and power line fuses. The decoders also
offer easy removal (for cleaning) and reinstallation of the fan blower filter.
Three access panels located behind the front panel allow field replacement of
the fan assembly, the primary power supply and the secondary power supply. A
sketch illustrating the locations of these access panels is provided in Figure 4-1.
Fuse replacement is covered at the end of this chapter.
Fan Filter Maintenance
The HD rack-mount line of decoders incorporate a fan filter that must be cleaned
periodically to assure proper operation. The interval between cleanings is depen-
dent on the installation environment. The filter should be removed and cleaned
whenever it appears to be excessively dusty or dirty.
The filter is accessed by first removing the front cover. Front cover removal
requires no tools; it is removed by gripping and pulling on the plastic front cover.
The fan filter is then removed, cleaned and returned to its original location.

Hazardous electrical voltages may be present in this equipment. Follow proper
safety procedures during installation and at any time the cabinet is open or
removed from the equipment rack. Remove all power from the unit before
connecting or disconnecting any external cables.
