MITEL SX-100/SX-200 ANALOG LIMITATIONS AND
APPLICATION RECOMMENDATIONS
The following sections outline limitations to Mitel SX-100/SX-200 Analog — VP 300 Adaptive
Integration. Most of the limitations are due to limitations within the PBX itself; a few are the result
of the form of integration the VP 300 uses with the Mitel PBX.

PBX Functional Limitations that Affect MWI
The following are limitations that affect Message Waiting Indication.
•
One or more Superset port from the PBX is required for message waiting control. This port
must be restricted so that it cannot answer calls.
•
Message waiting indication for a Superset 4 display telephone appears as a callback
message. The VP 300 cannot be called back from a Superset 4 because the MIC message
waiting port cannot answer calls.
•
The PBX automatically cancels message waiting for Superset 4s after 24 hours. Use
System Parameter 191 — HOUR TO REACTIVATE MSG WTG INDICATORS, to enable
automatic reactivation of message waiting indicators.
•
Message waiting indicators on a Superset 4 display telephone can be turned OFF by using
the READ MSG feature and pressing the CANCEL softkey.
•
Superset 4 users should not be configured as sub-attendants, because once the VP 300 has
turned a single line phone’s message waiting indicator ON, a completed call to any sub-
attendant turns the indicator OFF.
•
Once the VP 300 has turned ON a Superset 4 display telephone’s message waiting
indicator, the Superset 4 periodically rings briefly to indicate that a message has been
received.
•
The VP 300 must call a phone to control its message waiting indicator. A phone may ring
briefly while the VP 300 turns its indicator ON or OFF.
•
The VP 300 cannot control a phone’s message waiting indicator while that phone is set for
Do Not Disturb, or when that phone forwards on Busy-Forward or All-Forward. Also, the
VP 300 cannot control the message waiting indicator of a superset 4 with AUTO ANSWER
turned ON. This conflicts with operation of CPI in some instances. For example,
–
If a phone forwards all calls to the VP 300 for secondary answering, the VP 300 cannot
control that phone’s message waiting indicator until the phone is taken out of forward.
The same applies to a phone in Do Not Disturb.
–
If a person logs on from their own phone and the phone is set to forward on busy, the
VP 300 cannot turn that person’s message waiting indicator OFF until the person is off
the phone.
☞
If a phone is set to forward only on ring-no-answer, conflicts such as these do not
occur. Therefore, we recommend setting all extensions that use MWI to forward to
the VP 300 only on ring-no-answer. The drawback to this is that these extensions do
not receive internal call coverage when they are busy.
