In some cases better sensitivity can be achieved using a manual filter
set-up instead of the default sequence, which is Simple Threshold
followed by Enhanced Gradient.
As an example, if the package has dense edges, the filter thresholds
would be based on the gray-level response from the edges rather than the
interior of the package. As a result, the only detectable contaminants
would be those that were denser than the edges.
In this example, we can minimize the edge effects by adding an Edge
Mask operation to the filter sequence.
First, an overview of the manual filter setup:
Step I
. Set the filter sequence to Side Edge Mask, Simple
Threshold, and Enhanced Gradient in that order.

Determine the correct Edge Mask thickness
Step III.
Learn the Filter Thresholds
Note. The same package can be used repeatedly if multiple
samples are not available.

Hint. Locate the packages on the conveyor belt in the same
location they will be during production. Similarly, the package
orientation should be the same as it will be during production. The
goal is to try to simulate as closely as possible the actual package
location and orientation so the EZx learns the appropriate
thresholds.
