There are several different types of filters in the
EZx
that are used to
enhance the detection process by increasing the image contrast, reducing
the effects of noise, amplifying sudden changes in product density, or
masking dense package edges.
There are 6 types of filters:
•
Simple –
Finds large contaminants that are significantly denser than
the product being inspected.
•
Gradient –
Finds contaminants by checking output to see if the
intensity drops below the detection threshold. Used for finding small
contaminants and for filtering out effects of gradual changes in
product thickness.
•
Side Edge Mask –
Masks the edges of product such as aluminum
cans, cardboard boxes, or aluminum pie pans with rolled or folded
edges that produce images that have distinct dark bands around the
package perimeter
.
Used if there are dark edges present on the
product container. Should be applied before other filters. Less than
100% of the product will be inspected. Contaminants could be
missed if they are right next to the edge or directly under it.
•
Gamma –
Finds contaminants that are slightly denser than the
product being inspected
•
Enhanced Gradient –
Combines a logarithmic contrast adjustment
(increases contrast in darker regions of an image) and the gradient
into one filter. The enhanced gradient is less sensitive to noise in the
image. Works for most products and is part of the default for
Quick
Learn
.
•
Contrast Sharpening
– increases image contract by subtracting a
blurred version of the image from the original. This filter finds small
contaminants in packages that do not have any sharp edges and is a
two-dimensional alternative to the gradient filter.
