MAINTENANCE AND CARE – Fuel Sedimenter (DICOR Engines)

FUEL SEDIMENTER (DICOR ENGINES)

Vehicles equipped with DICOR engines use a fuel sedimenter to separate water 

from contaminated fuel.  The sedimenter is mounted to the transaxle, behind the 

radiator.  An electronic sensor at the bottom of the sedimenter detects the presence 

of water and illuminates the sediment indicator on the instrument cluster.  When the 

presence of water is detected in the fuel system, the engine management software 

will place the vehicle in “Limp Home Mode” until the water in the fuel is drained 

and the sensor no longer detects water in the fuel system.  Vehicle performance 

is greatly reduced when the vehicle is operating in “Limp Home Mode”.  The 

following steps provide the procedure for draining the fuel sedimenter:

Stop the engine and apply the parking brake.  Wait several minutes for the 

fuel system pressure to stabilise.
Disconnect  the  wiring  harness  connector,  1,  from  the  bottom  of  the 

sedimenter.
Disconnect the inlet or outlet pipe from the top of the sedimenter.
Place a suitable container under the sedimenter and loosen (anticlockwise) 

the water sensor at the bottom of the sedimenter two turns.
Allow the fuel and water to drain from the sedimenter.  Tighten the sensor 

once the water is drained from the sedimenter.
Reconnect the wiring harness and fuel line.
Use a hand pump to prime the fuel line before restarting the engine.

CAUTION

Diesel fuel is an irritant.  Wash hands immediately after handling.

The presence of water in the fuel system will damage the engine 

and components.  If the sediment indicator illuminates in the 

instrument cluster, take the vehicle to the nearest authorized 

service outlet to have the fuel sedimenter drained immediately.
