PARKING BRAKE

The parking brake is a lever-actuated cable type that acts on the rear drum brakes.

Due to brake wear and cable stretch, the parking brake may require adjustment

so that the lever pull is between 3 and 6 notches.

To adjust the parking brake, use the following procedure:

Park the vehicle on a level surface and place in gear. Release the parking

brake.
Access the parking brake cable adjustment by removing the access cover

on the floor of the rear passenger area.

Loosen the locknut, 1, and then tighten the adjusting nut, 2.

NOTE

Do not overtighten the parking brake cable. Overtightening the

parking brake cable will cause the rear brakes to drag.

Adjust the cables so the parking brake lever resistance is taut at the sixth

notch of the lever pull. Tighten locknut and secure the access cover.
Raise the vehicle off the ground using an appropriate lift. Verify the

parking brake holds the rear wheels at the sixth notch of the parking

brake lever pull and that the wheels are free to rotate when the parking

brake is released.
