Fuel Economy Tips
Driving to increase fuel economy not only saves money in fuel costs,
but also helps to reduce environmental impact. To maximize fuel
efficiency for your vehicle, observe the following points:
Avoid Excessive Idling
- If stopped and waiting for more than
a couple of minutes, stop the engine and restart again when
ready to move.
Avoid Fast Starts
- Whenever possible, start off slowly from a
stop (i.e. traffic light, stop sign). This increases fuel economy
and reduces wear.
Avoid Unnecessary Stops
- Whenever possible, avoid
unnecessary stops or slowing down and accelerating again.
Maintaining a constant speed maximizes fuel economy. Do not
rest your foot on the brake or clutch pedal while driving.
Maintain Correct Tyre Pressure and Alignment
-
Maintaining correct tyre pressure and wheel alignment will
improve driveability and fuel economy as well as lower tyre
and vehicle wear.
Maintain the Engine Air Filter -
Observe the air restriction
gauge on the air filter housing when checking the engine oil
(weekly or on fuel fill ups). A clogged air filter greatly reduces
fuel mileage.
Maintain the vehicle
-
Follow the appropriate maintenance
schedule for the driving conditions. Taking your vehicle to your
most convenient authorised service provider for maintenance
and repair ensures the best performance from your vehicle.
Drive at Proper Speeds -
Always observe posted speed limits.
Excessive speed decreases fuel mileage. Always select the correct

transmission gear for the speed traveled. Shift to higher gears as
soon as possible. Use each gear up to 2/3rd of the maximum
engine speed. Refer to the fuel economy table below:

Avoid Unnecessary Use of Air Conditioner -
Using the air
conditioner increases the load on the engine and reduces fuel
economy. Whenever possible, use the ventilation system
without engaging the air conditioner compressor and/or lower
the windows. Note that when travelling at higher speeds, using
the air conditioner is more fuel efficient than travelling with the
windows down.
Travel Lightly -
Do not haul unnecessary items in the car.
Extra weight puts an increased load on the engine, reducing
fuel economy.
Observe Weather Conditions -
Weather conditions, such as
strong head winds, heavy rain, and snow reduce fuel economy.
Slow down when experiencing inclement weather.
Avoid Adulterated fuel
- Always make sure correct fuel is
used.
