EMERGENCY SERVICE –

jUMPER STARTING

If the battery becomes discharged, another battery or booster and jumper leads can

transfer power to the discharged battery, providing assistance to start the vehicle.

WARNING

Use caution attempting to start a vehicle with jumper leads. Improperly

connected jumper leads or allowing the positive (+) and negative (-)

leads to touch may cause the battery to explode, causing serious injury

or damage to both vehicle’s electrical systems. Stay away from the

batteries when attempting to jump start a vehicle.

Use the following procedure to jumper start a vehicle with a discharged battery:

Read this procedure entirely before attempting jumper starting a vehicle.

Use the following points while attempting to use jumper leads to start a

car:

Wear a protective face shield, gloves, and clothing.
Connect the negative (-) lead as far away from the negative (-) battery

terminal and as close to the engine starter/transaxle as possible on the

vehicle with the discharged battery.
Switch off all unnecessary electric loads (audio system, HVAC

system, etc.).
Make certain the battery providing the boost is in good condition.
Keep body parts and jumper leads away from moving parts in the

engine compartment.
Do not lean over the batteries while connecting jumper leads.

Place the vehicles in neutral and engage the parking brake. Stop the

engine of the booster car and raise the bonnet on each vehicle.
