NOTE:

Misalignment of the spindle can result in poor cut quality, inaccurate dimensions, and de-

creased bit life. Squaring the spindle will occur after spoil board installation.

Lower the Z-Axis Extrusion

If it hasn’t been done already, place a sheet of plywood on top of
the table.

Clamp the Z-axis extrusion at its lowest point as shown at left.

Note:

An assistant can also hold the Z-axis during spindle instal-

lation.

If the Z-axis will not

travel down far enough to access the top two holes from
behind, the stop screw may be limiting movement. The
screw can be temporarily removed to complete this step.

Raise the Z-axis above YZ car until a screw that is not
recessed into the rack is visible on the backside as
shown. Be careful to support the Z-axis and ensure it
does not move down enough to disengage the rack from
the pinion gear.

Note:

Do not remove any low profile screws as they se-

cure the rack and removal may cause
misalignment.

Spindle Mounting Plate

The spindle will already have a mounting plate attached. The six tapped holes (cir-
cled in picture) correspond with the holes on the Z-axis extrusion.

Note:

The spindle mounting plate has two mounting orientations on the spindle.

Removing the four countersunk screws allows the plate to be rotated 180 degrees.
Mounting plate in this orientation shifts the spindle up 1.5” (38mm) in relation to the
Z-axis. This allows clearance of taller work stock at the expense of maximum cut
depth.
