The bottom cover is removed by unscrewing the four bottom feet, but  its removal is 
usually not required. 
 
Use the self-test error code tables (Table 7-10 - Table 7-15) as a guide to locate the 
trouble  area.    The  error  codes  identify  the  PC  board(s)  on  which  the  fault  occurred.  
The PC boards are abbreviated as follows:

In conjunction with the self-test error code table, simplified block diagrams (for each 
error code block) and schematics, diagnose the problem and replace/repair parts as 
required.  If you have a spare board complement, substitute boards one by one until 
the problem clears.  Repair or return the faulty board to the factory for repair. 

7.3.1 Extender Board and Cables 

Individual  PC  boards  may  be  extended  above  the  card  cage  for  troubleshooting.  
Included  with  the  5000  Series  Tester  is  an  extender  board  and  extension  cables.  
With AC power off, remove the suspect board, plug the extender board into the same 
slot, plug the suspect board into the extender board and reconnect all cables via the

CAUTION:  Double  check  extension  cables  to  be 
sure  they  are  not  connected  backwards.    Apply 
power only after all cables have been connected. 
 
CAUTION: The Low Source Board

Source  Board  installed,  including  all  cables, 
before  applying  power.    Severe  damage  may 
occur otherwise.
