7 MAINTENANCE / TROUBLESHOOTING

7.1 Maintenance

7.1.1 Fan Filter

The  fan  filter  located  on  the  rear  panel  should  be  cleaned  semimonthly  to  maintain
adequate  airflow  for  system  cooling.    Gently  pry  off  the  fan  cover,  remove  the  filter
elements  (note  to  way  the  filter  elements  are  installed),  and  clean  with  water.
Thoroughly dry and reinstall, being sure to alternate corrugated elements in opposite
directions from each other.

7.1.2 Test Fixtures

Test fixtures  should  be  regularly  cleaned  with canned  freon  to remove metal  filings.
Filings  can  build  up,  bridge  between  device  leads,  and  cause  erroneous  test
measurements.    Replace  fixture  or  socket  only  (see  fixture  parts  list  in  the  Parts
Lists/Schematics  section  of  this  manual)  when  necessary.    If  socket is  replaced,  be
sure to remove all flux.

7.1.3 Run Self-Test Every Usage

On power up system self-test (and Lo Current Deck self-test, if applicable) should be
run. This will verify tester is operating properly. See section 7.2 for system self-test
and section 8.4 for Lo Current Deck self-test.

7.1.4 Firmware (Software) Update

Tester execution software is stored on flash memory located on the CPU board.  This
software  can  be  updated  via  the  PCW  PC  Software  supplied  with the  system.   See
section 6.3.3.5 for more information.  If, for any reason, the flash memory chips need
to be replaced, the following procedure should be followed:

Turn system power off and remove power cord from the system.



Remove the four screws holding the system back-panel and lower the back

panel.



Carefully remove the STI PC104 card from the CPU.



Carefully remove the three 29C040 flash memory chips.



Install the new flash memory chips as shown in Figure 7-1 (

NOTE: the order

of these chips must be as shown or the system will not operate

).



Re-install the STI PC104 card.



Re-install any cables removed.



Re-install the system back panel.
