3 THEORY

3.1 Overview

The 5000 Series Tester is a test system of power sources exercised under computer
control to test 2 and 3  lead semiconductor components.  These sources, along  with
conditioning loads, are connected as required to obtain the exact conditions required
for a particular test.  Included are means to connect a variety of loads and to switch
sources  in  and  out  of  the  circuit  as  required.    Shown  in  Figure  3-1  is  the  basic  test
configuration in simplified form. DUT is the device under test.

3.1.1 Card Cage / Backplane

The  5000  Series  Tester  is  divided  functionally  into  printed  PC  boards,  all  of  which
plug  into  the  card  cage  and  communicate  through  the  backplane  bus.    The  smaller
section  of  the  card  cage  located  at  the  rear  of  the  cage  is  the  STD  bus  computer
section.
