Mobile Gateway S20

Commissioning
Before you put the NovaTec
Mobile Gateway S20 into operation, you should have undertaken all
steps described in this handbook. This means, that you have connected the earth line, the trunk
lines, the terminal line and the Antennas. Commissioning takes place when the main plug is
inserted into the designated three pin socket. Assuming the GSM slide in modules and the CCU
of NovaTec
Mobile Gateway S20 has been configurated, it is ready for use after booting for
approximately 2 minutes.

Status Displays on the NovaTec
Mobile Gateway
S20
Each individual module has light emitting diodes located on the front panel which indicates
the operational mode. This display mainly serves to assist diagnosis in cases of propblems
or to monitor the functions of the NovaTec
Mobile Gateway S20.
5.1.1
Status Displays on the CCU and CCU-Light
The CCU status display allows you to follow the individual diagnosis steps during the
booting phase on commencing operational mode. You can also see when the system is in
default mode due to missing configurations. Thus, you can recognize all possible stages of
operation by observing the light emitting diodes on the CCU.
Upon connecting the NovaTec
Mobile Gateway S20 to the main supply, the system undertakes a
processor test followed by a RAM- and firmware test. When there is a valid configuration, the
system then moves into operational mode. In cases where there is no configuration, the system
starts up in the default configuration (Power-LED is off). This means that only the first two
BRA interfaces and the first PRA interface of the CCU is being activated. The operational
mode “boot monitor active” can only be activated by a service technician using a PC connected
to the V.24/RS232 interface of the CCU in the NovaTec
Mobile Gateway S20.
If the NovaTec
Mobile Gateway S20 starts in the default configuration, a valid configuration must
be transmitted through downloading. Downloading can be undertaken either locally, via the
V.24 or ISDN interfaces, or remotely via the public telecommunications network. After
downloading is completed, the system resets itself and starts up using the previously transmitted
configuration. At the first commissioning, the system commences with a test configuration that
is used by the supplier as a quality control check. For this reason it is imperative that the
download procedure is undertaken
.
If a modified configuration is being transmitted during the running operation, the level of
changes will determine whether or not the system undertakes a restart. As a precaution,
you should undertake the download procedure at a time that avoids high levels of data
transmission activity because connections will be interrupted should the system require a
restart.
