The Module Sim Card Multiplexer SXU
Each Sim Card Multiplexer enables for all 4 GSM channels of WAU the multiplexing of
5 Sim Card readers, for each GSM Channel.
On the front of the Sim Card Multiplexer are located 4 plug-in connections and 20 Sim
Card holders. The 4 plug-in connectors establish the connection to the GSM Modules.
The 20 Sim Card holders are distributed on 2 printed circuit boards, On the main board
there are six and a further 14 are located on an expansion board.
Two versions of the SXU are currently in Production, SXU differs from the SXU only by
the channel number allocation (see Picture 16 and 17)
On a NMG S20 with 30 channels the SXU’s are in alternate positions with the WAU’s on a
1 to 1 basis and in this case the ACU2 must be affixed to the bottom of the mounting shelf/
Rack.
On a NMG S20 with 60 Channels two racks are needed. The two CCU’s one in each rack
are connected together via an interchange E1 interface. Two E1s are provided for the traffic.
The two E1s behave as one Unit for the network.
The SXU’s and WAU’s are connected together via a flat cable connector directly from
the SXU to the Sim holder of the appropriate WAU, with the Sim Cards being then held
within the SXU Sim Card Slots

The Sim Card Holder
Please note:
Only Sim cards with a voltage of 3V are supported on the frontpanel of SXU.
The LED signals which Sim cardholder is currently active, and also in which Sim
cardholder an operational Sim card is held and if an error has occurred (Software).
Each Sim Card holder is allocated an LED which shows the status of the Sim Card hol-
der.
Sim Card holders are accessed via the insertion of a suitable pointed instrument in the
yellow release button, the drawer is then completely removeable for the insertion of the
Sim Card
Insert the Sim Card into the drawer in the correct position, (marked corner of the Sim
Card should match the marked corner of the drawer)
Push the drawer and Sim Card into the appropriate slot, with the contacts of the Sim
Card pointing towards the LED’s
Configuration of the Sim Cards can then go ahead.
