for five seconds. The previous menu then reap-
pears automatically.
The wrong-way warning remains active if you deac-
tivate the warning function of Traffic Sign Assist.
Blind Spot Assist
▌
Function of Blind Spot Assist
Blind Spot Assist uses two lateral, rear-facing radar
sensors to monitor the area directly next to and on
the side behind the vehicle.
&
WARNING Risk of accident despite Blind
Spot Assist
Blind Spot Assist does not react to either sta-
tionary objects or vehicles approaching and
overtaking you at a greatly different speed.
Blind Spot Assist cannot warn drivers in these
situations.
#
Always pay careful attention to the traffic
situation and maintain a safe distance at
the side of the vehicle.
Observe the notes on driving systems and your
responsibility; you may otherwise fail to recognise
dangers (
/
page 148).
If a vehicle is detected above speeds of approx-
imately 12 km/h and this vehicle subsequently
enters the monitoring range directly next to your
vehicle, the warning lamp in the outside mirror
lights up red.
If a vehicle is detected close to your vehicle in the
lateral monitoring range and you switch on the turn
signal indicator in the corresponding direction, a
warning tone sounds. The red warning lamp in the
outside mirror flashes. If the turn signal indicator
remains switched on, all other detected vehicles
are indicated only by the flashing of the red warn-
ing lamp.
When you overtake a vehicle, the warning only
occurs if the difference in speed is less than
approximately 20 km/h.
System limits
Blind Spot Assist may be limited in the following
situations:
R
if there is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
R
if there is poor visibility, e.g. due to fog, heavy
rain, snow or spray
R
if narrow vehicles are within the monitoring
range, e.g. bicycles
R
if the road has very wide or very narrow lanes
R
if vehicles are not driving in the middle of their
lane
Warnings may be issued in error when driving
close to crash barriers or similar solid lane bor-
ders. Warnings may be interrupted when driving
alongside long vehicles, for example lorries, for a
prolonged time.
Blind Spot Assist is not operational when reverse
gear is engaged.

To activate/deactivate: press the
a
button.
When Blind Spot Assist is activated, grey radar
waves propagating toward the rear appear next to
the vehicle in the assistance graphic in the instru-
ment cluster display. If you drive faster than
12 km/h with Blind Spot Assist activated, the
radar waves in the assistance graphic are dis-
played in green. Blind Spot Assist is ready for use.
If you switch on the vehicle while Blind Spot Assist
is activated, the warning lamps in the outside mir-
rors light up for approx. 1.5 seconds.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
▌
Function of Rear Cross Traffic Alert
%
The system is only available for vehicles with
Blind Spot Assist.
The system uses the radar sensors in the bumper.
This way the area adjacent to the vehicle is contin-
ually monitored. If the radar sensors are obscured
by vehicles or other objects, detection is not possi-
ble.
%
Also read the notes on Blind Spot Assist
(

page 168).
The system can warn of crossing traffic when
reversing out of a parking space. If the system
detects a vehicle, the warning lamp in the outside
mirror on the corresponding side lights up red. In a
critical situation, an additional warning tone
sounds.
The Rear Cross Traffic Alert function is active
under the following conditions:
R
Blind Spot Assist is activated.
R
Reverse gear is engaged or the vehicle is
reversing at walking pace.
