MGCP/SCTP/IUA Configuration

Figure 31-1: MGCP and IUA Gateways between IP and CS contexts
The setup is akin to the concept of H.323 or ISoIP gateways and interfaces (see software
configuration guide page XX). Again a gateway entity builds the bridge between the circuit oriented
world (ISDN, POTS) and the packet based world (IP). The difference to H.323 and ISoIP is that 2
distinct gateway instances (an IUA and a MGCP gateway) must be set up, and that no CS context
and interfaces are involved in configuration.
ISDN and POTS specific settings are configured in the according port configuration mode, which is
entered with the command 'port isdn <slot> <port>'. For more information on port ISDN refer to
Chapter 24, "ISDN Port Configuration".
The IUA gateway forms the bridge of ISDN signaling to the packet based network and needs to be
bound to one of the IP interfaces (which in turn are defined in the IP context). For information on
how to configure IP interfaces refer to Chapter 12, "IP Interface Configuration".
The MGCP gateway is the bridge of bearer control and bearer data (RTP). It does not need specific
configuration on the ISDN side.
To request tone playback if an MGCP event occurs, call-progress-tones are mapped to corresponding
MCGP events.
31.2 MGCP/SCTP/IUA Configuration Task List
This chapter describes the configuration of the MGCP and IUA gateways.
All
possible configurations
which are involved in a specific configuration topic are described in the respective configuration
task.
