8.1.4 Using crash to Analyze a Dump

The dump can be analyzed by using the

crash

command. The

crash

command

can be used to check the validity of the dump:

# crash /var/adm/ras/vmcore.x /unix

If the following appears on the screen, then the dump is good:

Reading in symbols
>

If the copy of /unix does not match the dump file, the following output will appear
on the screen:

WARNING:

dump file does not appear to match namelist

Reading in symbols
>

If the dump itself is corrupted in some way, then the following will appear on the
screen:

To exit the

crash

debug program, type

quit at the > prompt.

From the > prompt, you can enter a number of

crash

subcommands. The
