fault is in the Hydro-View and may be a blown fuse – check FS1 and replace if
required (see Figure 23 (p59)). Later revisions of the HV02 are fitted with re-settable
fuses, so remove power for about 30 seconds and try again.
3. Disconnect the sensor at the 6-pin Bulgin connector. Replace the terminal block on
the Hydro-View and repeat the measurements in 2 above. A change in the indicated
measurements suggests there is a fault in the extension cable wiring. When using
Hydro-Probe II
or
Hydro-Mix II
sensors the -15Vdc power supply rail is unused but
this voltage should still be checked if the wiring is present.
4. Now reconnect the sensor, and repeat the measurements in 2. You may find that the
voltages reduce slightly. On older Hydro-View units (model HV01), the voltage across
terminals 3-2 will drop significantly but should still be in the range -5 to -15.5V. If this
test fails there may still be a fault in the extension cable wiring, but also possibly a
fault either internal to the sensor or in the short length of cable connecting to the
sensor.
5. Verify that the power supply voltages for the sensor are present at the sensor end. To
do this you will need to unscrew the Bulgin connector (on the extension cable side) so
that you can measure voltages with the sensor connected. Measure this time across
pins 1-3 (+12V to +15.5V) and 2-3 (-5V to -15.5V).
6. Check that the sensor output signal can be measured between pin 4 and 3 (at the
Bulgin connector) and terminals 4 and 5 at the Hydro-View. The signal should change
according to the moisture content (see below). To do this test it may be necessary to
remove the sensor from its installed location.
7. Check that the signal voltage measured across terminals 4 and 5 on the rear of
Hydro-View is the same as the displayed voltage shown on the “Sensor Diagnostics”
display (mV). Differences of more than 100mermiHapp2 wrihe volta))ostics”e
